Data Storage and Recovery

Data Storage

Having taken the important step of backing up your valuable company data onto some form of magnetic or optical storage media the question is then, ‘what should we do with it’.  As a business you may also have some legal responsibilities and therefore liabilities concerning the management, usage and storage of certain types of data.

Many organisations have a safe or locked draw to keep the backups in, but as we’ve already discussed, what happens if you are prevented from accessing your building or it is damaged in some accident, the saved media is now useless. Some companies instruct a designated person to ‘take the tape home’, however this is not a satisfactory solution as most individuals when polled by us admitted that it made them feel “exposed and vulnerable” and someone who’s made to feel like that won’t be your employee for long.

Maintain IT has helped many businesses plan for and implement secure data storage solutions based on ‘best practice’ and meeting all regulatory demands and criteria.

Data Recovery

In many cases the most important asset your business owns is the data it generates and keeps on the system, whether this is payroll information, client confidential or customer sales details.

Protecting your Business should begin with a plan to protect your business’ data and there are some good, safe practices for doing this. Initially a backup of data from the server onto some form of media is a good starting point, but then what? Having a backup is fine but if it’s in the server room and due to some form of civil disorder, access to your building is denied then it’s of no use. Developing a strategy about ‘what to do if’ is not only good practice; it makes good sense and can often be the deciding factor in a business surviving a disaster or not.

Maintain IT has many Clients whose needs vary concerning Data recovery and have supplied many different solutions in accordance with not only ‘best practice’ but various regulatory and governing bodies.
